I Have No Freaking Idea Why I Still Read Mark Trail -- guest column by Jimmy Swamless
Hello ladies and gentlemen; I'm a retired lawyer who now resides in New Hampshire. I'm here to talk about Mark Trail, the long-running comic strip.

I've been reading Mark Trail now for over thirty years. Every morning while I enjoy a fresh bowl of Fruit Loops, I also read the newspaper. Part of this process includes instinctively reading the Mark Trail strip.
Recently I had a revelation. While looking at a squirrel being rescued from danger, it occurred to me - why the hell do I still read this crap? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate how Mark Trail promotes wildlife and teaches us how to respect it and everything. At some point though, there has to be more.
Quite frankly, I have no damn idea what is going on in that strip. Is it because I pay so little attention to it now or is it because I am getting older? Mark Trail is running around the woods - he's doing this, he's doing that - just what is the point? I'm lost and I think it's time I moved on.
I'll miss you, Mark Trail. I'll never forget you. I hope you last forever, but it's time we part ways.
